August 12, 2026—remember this date as the start of your next big journey in Iceland. Positioned right in the path of totality, Iceland is one of the best places on Earth to witness the eclipse. You’ll ride in a specifically modified vehicle to tackle challenging terrains to get to the perfect viewing spot. These off-road beasts are built for adventure, taking you to remote and untouched locations beyond what ordinary vehicles can handle.
After more than 70 years, Icelanders and visitors will finally have front-row seats to this incredible celestial event. It begins with the Moon slowly moving in front of the Sun, creating a partial eclipse. Then, for about 2 minutes, totality takes over—the sky will darken, and the Sun’s corona will shine around the edges of the Moon. It’s a rare and breathtaking moment you won’t want to miss!
We’ll pick you up from a convenient spot in the capital area and then hit the road searching for the vantage point. These off-road beasts can cross rivers and handle rough trails easily. Spacious, comfortable, and built for adventure, they’re perfect for exploring secluded spots. Skip the crowds and enjoy the ride!
Our expert guides will monitor the weather and clouds to find the best viewing spot so that the plan will stay flexible! As we drive, you’ll take in Iceland’s stunning scenery—mountains, lava fields, and rugged coastlines—that set the scene for an unforgettable day. Once we reach the ideal location, you’ll have time to set up your camera, relax, and prepare for the main event. As the day goes on, the eclipse will unfold, with anticipation building every second until the big moment arrives!
The big moment—totality. As the moon completely covers the sun, the sky will turn into an eerie twilight and then darkness, creating a short but unforgettable experience. Cameras will click, cheers will erupt, and we’ll all be in awe of this rare, breathtaking sight.
After the eclipse, we’ll take a moment to soak it all in, enjoy drinks, and share stories with fellow watchers before packing up for the ride back to Reykjavík. The journey home will be filled with reflections on an incredible day, arriving back in the city by late evening after witnessing one of nature’s most stunning events.
Food: Please note that food is not provided, and there won’t be any stops along the way in order to beat the traffic. Therefore, you should bring enough snacks and meals to keep you energized throughout the day.
Travel Time & Viewing Location: We allow extra time to find the perfect viewing spot—it’s worth the wait to catch this once-in-a-lifetime eclipse! Travel time will vary with the weather, so our plan stays flexible.
Weather & Visibility: Eclipse visibility depends on the weather, so while we can’t guarantee clear skies, we’ll make the most of the day by exploring local sights and enjoying Iceland’s stunning scenery if the weather doesn’t cooperate.
Don’t Forget! Feel free to bring cameras and binoculars to capture this amazing event. Just be sure to use proper solar filters to protect your eyes and equipment during the partial phases of the eclipse.
