Itinerary

Your tour starts at a designated pickup point in Reykjavík or at the Geysir Center parking lot, depending on the option you select when booking. From there, you'll travel toward Langjökull glacier in a Super Jeep or monster truck.

At the glacier base camp, your guide will provide a snowmobile suit, gloves, balaclava, goggles, and helmet. You'll then learn how to operate the snowmobile safely before setting out on a guided 1-hour ride on the ice cap.

Langjökull means “Long Glacier,” and its size lives up to the name. At its thickest, the ice reaches about 580 m (1,903 ft), nearly the height of 8 Hallgrímskirkja towers stacked on top of one another. The ice cap holds an estimated 195 km³ (46.8 mi³) of ice. As you ride across the glacier, take in views of Iceland’s western Highlands. On clear days, you may spot Eiríksjökull and Hofsjökull glaciers, along with the Kerlingarfjöll mountain range in the distance. After your ride, you’ll return to the base camp.

If you select the Northern Lights upgrade, your booking also includes a minibus Northern Lights tour from September to April. You'll search Iceland's dark skies for auroras with a guide, and the trip comes with warm cocoa and free photos.

Select pickup in Reykjavík or meet us at Geysir Center parking when booking your tour. See all Reykjavík pickup points.

For help finding the meeting point, use the Geysir Center meeting point map or contact our Customer Care.

  • The price is per guest based on 2 people sharing a snowmobile. Solo riders and odd-numbered groups should select the "solo on a snowmobile" option for an additional 10,000 ISK ($82 / €73).
  • A valid driver's license is required to drive a snowmobile.
  • From November 1, 2026, guests without a driver’s license can book an extra guide to drive for 70,000 ISK ($575 / €513). The fee may vary by season and availability, so contact Customer Care for details and booking.

FAQ

The snowmobile ride lasts 1 hour. With the transfer to base camp, gear fitting, and a safety briefing, the full tour takes 3 to 4 hours when you meet us at Geysir Center and 8 to 10 hours with Reykjavík pickup. The Reykjavík option takes longer because it includes the return drive from the capital.

Meet at Geysir Center if you have a car and are touring the Golden Circle: it's the lower-priced option and the shorter day. Choose Reykjavík pickup if you'd prefer not to drive. As with all our meet-on-location tours, you're responsible for getting to Geysir Center parking yourself, and late arrivals aren't refunded

Be at your pickup point from the start of the pickup time shown in your booking, as you may be the first stop of the day. Your guide can take up to 30 minutes to reach you, so wait outside where you're easy to spot. Keep your email and phone number up to date with us in case we can't find you, and note that a missed pickup isn't refunded. See all Reykjavík pickup points.

The price includes a transfer to the glacier base camp, safety instructions, a 1-hour guided ride with two people sharing a snowmobile, and all necessary gear: a snowmobile suit, gloves, balaclava, goggles, and helmet. Pickup from Reykjavík is included only if you select the booking option with pickup. Lunch is not included. Riding your own snowmobile or having a guide drive for you costs extra.

Yes. The standard price is based on two people sharing one snowmobile. To ride alone, select the “solo on a snowmobile” option when booking. This costs an extra 10,000 ISK ($82 / €73). The same applies to groups with an odd number of guests. For example, in a group of three, two people share one snowmobile, while the third rides alone and pays the additional fee.

Yes, every driver needs a valid, full driver's license, and a motorcycle license alone isn't accepted. Passengers don't need one. If you're sharing and you both have a license, you can take turns driving. From November 1, 2026, guests without a license can hire an extra guide to drive for 70,000 ISK ($575 / €513). The fee may vary by season, so contact Customer Care to arrange it.

Yes. You don't need any previous snowmobiling experience. Before the ride starts, your guide gives easy-to-follow instructions on how to operate the snowmobile safely, and the whole tour is guided in English.

Yes, from age 8, as long as a parent or guardian comes along. When booking, choose the Child category for ages 8 to 16. Only guests with a valid driver's license can drive, so a child without one rides as a passenger.

No special fitness is needed. The tour is listed as Easy in our difficulty ratings, and anyone in average physical condition should complete it without trouble.

Yes. The maximum combined weight on one snowmobile is 250 kg (551 lbs) for 2 riders. Every rider also needs to fit into the snowmobile suits we provide, which go up to size 5XL. If you're unsure about the weight limit or sizing, contact Customer Care before booking.

We don't recommend snowmobiling during pregnancy. If you're traveling with a group, you're welcome to come along and wait at the base camp while the others ride.

Dress in layers under the snowmobile suit we provide: a thermal top, fleece or warm sweater, warm pants, and long underwear if you get cold easily. Wear sturdy boots and thick socks, since conditions on the glacier can be cold and wet. Gloves, a balaclava, goggles, and a helmet are provided at the base camp. You can also bring your own warmer or higher-quality gloves and balaclava if you prefer.

No, so bring a packed lunch or snacks, especially on the longer day from Reykjavík. Geysir Center has a restaurant and a café, so you can eat there before the tour if you're meeting us on location.

Yes. The base camp where the tour starts has toilets you can use before and after snowmobiling. There are no bathroom breaks during the snowmobile ride.

A Super Jeep is a heavily modified 4x4 with a reinforced suspension, snorkels, and oversized tires 97 to 127 cm (38 to 50 in) tall, built for rough terrain that a standard 4x4 can't handle. On this tour, a Super Jeep or monster truck takes you up to the glacier base camp.

Yes. Glaciers like Langjökull last through summer, so the snowmobile tour is available in every season. Pack warm layers, whatever the month.

Glacier activities depend on the weather, which can change quickly in Iceland. With your safety in mind, we may adjust the route or timing, or call off the ride. Guides can't advise on refunds or rescheduling, so contact Customer Care about your options. If you cancel yourself through My Adventures with more than 24 hours' notice, you'll get a full refund unless you booked a non-refundable rate, as set out in our cancellation policy.
