This tour takes you into the world of Icelandic glaciers and Northern Lights-lit skies! Starting in the morning, we'll enjoy one adventure after another, traveling in a comfortable minibus with free WiFi and modified Super Jeeps.
You will snowmobile on Iceland's second-largest glacier and follow your local guide into a naturally formed ice cave. Late in the evening, with hot chocolate in hand, we'll begin our hunt for the mesmerizing Northern Lights, followed by some free pictures of you under the dancing Aurora.
This action-packed day will leave you with memories to cherish forever!
We’ll start the day with a two-hour drive to Langjökull, Iceland’s second-largest glacier. From there, we’ll hop into Super Jeeps and head to the base camp, where you’ll get your snowmobiling gear. After a quick safety briefing, we’ll begin the adventure!
As we ride through Langjökull, also known as “The White Glacier,” you’ll see unique ice formations, cracks, and crevasses shaped over centuries. During the 1-hour ride, we’ll approach one of the stunning natural ice caves, famous for their translucency and volcanic ash stripes. You’ll have time to explore and take photos before we return to the base camp.
If you haven’t packed lunch, you can grab a bite at Skjól Bistro before heading back to Reykjavik to meet your Aurora guide.
In the evening, we'll begin the second part of our adventure—the hunt for Iceland's famous Aurora Borealis. We will escape the Reykjavik city lights and roam the Icelandic countryside to find the best spot. Our guides use the latest technology and years of experience chasing the Northern Lights.
During the drive, your guide will share stories and explain the science behind this natural wonder. You'll be warm and cozy with a cup of complimentary hot chocolate and a warm blanket.
Then, if we're lucky, we'll see the sky light up with moving strings of color. Icelandic auroras can be green, pink, red, blue, or even purple. The slow dance of Auroras is truly hypnotic!
Your guide will take pictures of you under the Northern Lights-lit sky to capture this special moment forever. You will receive a link to download your free photos. After the tour, we will return to Reykjavik and drop you off at the starting point.
Pick-up starts at 7:30 a.m. You will be picked up at your selected location in Reykjavik. Please note that picking everyone up can take up to 30 minutes. We appreciate your patience.
Available pick-up points: Arctic Adventures’s pick-up list.
You do not need previous snowmobile driving experience. Your guide will provide easy to follow operating instructions.
However, you do need a valid Driving License if you intend to drive. If there are two of you, only one of you needs to bring a Driving License but if you both bring one, each of you can take a turn at driving.
We provide you with an overall, a balaclava, goggles, gloves and a helmet. This Equipment is all included in the price of the tour.
First and foremost warm clothing.
Upper body: Thermal shirt and a fleece or a thick sweater over.
Lower body: Warm pants.
If you get easily cold, also thermals.
Shoes: It’s best to wear boots as it’s pretty cold on the glacier and they can get wet.
NOTE: You need to bring a lunch or some snacks. Lunch is not included in the tour.
We do not recommend women who are pregnant to participate in our snowmobile tours. If you are traveling in a group, you are welcome to travel with them and stay at our basecamp while the group goes on the snowmobile part of the tour.
The Northern Lights are natural phenomena and we unfortunately cannot promise you will see them on our tours. Their appearance depends upon atmospheric and weather conditions, which are factors entirely out of our control.
For more information on the Northern Lights, please have a look at our Northern Lights information.
Since the spectacle of the Northern Lights is very much weather-dependent, if no aurora is seen, you’ll have unlimited re-tries valid for up to 3 years. That’s right, you’ll be able to re-join the chase of Northern Lights until it’s a successful one!
What to do in this case? Our Customer Care is ready to help you and book your next re-try.
Please keep in mind that refunds are not issued when a tour takes place but no Northern Lights are seen. During a re-try, the tour is operated on a minibus.
The Northern Lights are a pretty difficult thing to predict. You can check the Icelandic Meteorological Office website to see the forecast - if the level is high and the skies are clear then it’s very likely that the tour is going ahead. We do update our website’s tour departure sheet with the information at 17:00 at the latest. If the tour is canceled, you will receive an email from us notifying you.
If we think there is no chance at all of seeing the lights, we will cancel the tour. We don’t want to bring you out and disappoint you if there will definitely be no aurora activity.
Yes, the guide will take a photo of you with the Northern Lights behind you. These can be single or group photos and are free of charge.
The Northern Lights season is said to be from late August until mid-April. However, if you want to increase your chances of seeing them, it is best to wait until the colder winter months, from mid-September until March.
Since it’ll be nighttime and winter when you chase the Northern Lights, it’s important to dress warmly! Be sure to dress in comfortable layers. Take an undershirt, a fleece sweater, and a jacket to go over everything. Don’t forget thermal underwear or leggings too!
