Spend an evening in the Icelandic countryside, starting with a cozy campfire setting where you can warm up in thermal suits and blankets—plus hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows. This 5-hour Northern Lights tour from Reykjavík is guided by forecasts and real-time conditions—and includes professional aurora photos when the lights show.
Your evening begins with a pickup in Reykjavík and a drive out of the city toward a quieter patch of countryside. Before the aurora chase starts, you’ll settle in at a cozy base with a crackling firepit, blankets, sheepskin seating, and thermal suits to keep you warm. Toast marshmallows over the flames, sip hot chocolate, and enjoy a few Icelandic treats while your guide keeps an eye on the sky and the latest conditions.
When it’s time to move, you’ll head out for the Northern Lights hunt, with possible viewing areas including Þingvellir, the Reykjanes Peninsula, or Hellisheiði. Your guide adjusts the route based on real-time forecasts, cloud cover, and solar activity, aiming for the clearest skies. When the lights appear, professional aurora photos are included, and you’ll be dropped back at your original pick-up point in Reykjavík at the end.

Your chances of seeing the aurora borealis above Reykjavík depend on weather conditions and some good luck. Two unique factors will be the driving force behind the possibility. The first is the weather over the city: If there is heavy cloud cover, it goes without saying that your chances of seeing the lights are obscured. Light pollution can also play a factor here, even when the sky is clear. The second factor is solar activity: When this is high, your chances are also high. These two things will have to be favorable at the same time for you to be able to witness the Northern Lights from Reykjavík.
We can never guarantee that you will see the Northern Lights. If you do not see them, we will offer you a free tour, but please note that you must contact us to re-book this. We cannot promise to offer you a second tour on the next night because this is dependent upon places being available.
Because Northern Lights boat tours are reliant upon suitable weather and aurora forecasts, they are sometimes canceled. Your tour may be canceled up to 18:15 on the day of departure. When this happens, your payment is refunded in full.
