Golden Circle and Lava Tube
We had a fantastic day out with Micha and 14 other tourists on the Golden Circle and Caving trip. We had hired water proof pants which were well and truly needed due to the rain and damp conditions inside the lava tube. We also stopped off at the Silfra fissure to drop off and pick up the snorkelers in our group. That was excellent to see too. Thanks Micha for a fun day out!
Your day starts with a visit to the world under a lava field where you get the chance to witness how the volcanoes created Iceland. This is an amazing hike through an ancient underground lava tube. After exploring the fascinating underworld in the Raufarhólshellir Lava Tube, you will be dropped off at a café bakery for a lunch break. You will then be picked up at around 12:00 for an exciting drive of the famous Golden Circle including Iceland’s key attractions Thingvellir National Park, Geysir, and Gullfoss Waterfall.
Our first stop will be the historic Þingvellir National Park (en. Parliament Fields). Þingvellir is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the original birthplace of the oldest existing parliament in the world. It is also the place where the tectonic plates of America and Europe meet with a clearly visible rift valley. You will learn about the Vikings and their meetings here as well as the geological forces of nature that have formed the national park.
Continuing our journey, we head to the geothermal area of Geysir, home of the famous erupting hot spring. Come and watch the heated water gurgle, bubble, and escape the ground with enormous force up to 25 meters high.
Our third and last stop for the day is Gullfoss (e. Golden Waterfall), the undisputed queen of Icelandic waterfalls. Gullfoss is truly a great sight to admire, with water rushing down three steps of lava layers exhibiting breathtaking power and grandeur.
We end our day in Reykjavik where you can get dropped off at one of our authorized locations. A great way to explore a lava cave followed by Iceland’s most famous natural attractions!

Yes, we do. Langjökull Ice Cave is a magical experience, the tour has no minimum age and is a wonderful option for the whole family. Whale Watching with our partner company Elding has been a favourite with families traveling with young children, these guys have a great success rate in seeing whales (upwards of 98% in the summertime).
Another option would be the Landmannalaugar Safari on this tour you get to explore parts of the Icelandic highlands and bathe in natural hot springs. Most of our super jeep tours are also suitable for children over the age of 6 years old. If you would like a nice and relaxing experience we would also recommend the Golden Circle & Secret Lagoon tour.
Your safety is our number one priority! Keeping this in mind, Arctic Adventures reserves the right to adjust the itinerary and/or take different routes depending on conditions. Please read more information in our cancellation policy.

The Kolviður Fund is the oldest, most respected carbon offsetting program in Iceland. With your support, one tree will be planted in special Kolviður forests in Iceland to carbon offset your tour with us.
