Itinerary

Start in Reykjavík and explore Iceland’s highlights in just four days. Visit Þingvellir, Gullfoss, Geysir, and the Kerið crater. See Jökulsárlón, Diamond Beach, and Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon. Ride a monster truck up Langjökull and go deep into the world’s largest glacier tunnel—an experience like no other!

Scenic view of Gullfoss waterfalls close up at sunset during spring.

After morning pickup in Reykjavík, your journey begins with Iceland’s classic route: the Golden Circle. First stop is Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO site where Iceland’s first parliament was founded. It’s also where two tectonic plates are slowly drifting apart, creating dramatic cracks in the landscape. Here, you can literally stand between continents!

Next up, the Geysir geothermal area. Feel the ground rumble as Strokkur erupts every few minutes, sending hot water 20 meters (65 feet) into the air – it’s a natural show you can’t miss. From there, we visit Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most powerful waterfalls. Watch as the water plunges into a deep canyon—often with a rainbow stretched across the mist on sunny days.

We’ll also stop at Kerið, a striking volcanic crater with red slopes and a vivid lake at its base, followed by a visit to Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where you can walk behind the curtain of water in summer. The day wraps up in the South Coast village of Vík, surrounded by wild landscapes and views of Mount Hekla.

If you’re traveling between September and April, keep an eye on the sky—tonight might bring your first glimpse of the Northern Lights.

Icebergs with volcanic black ash stripes floating at Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon.

After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, we’ll pack our sense of adventure and travel along the South Coast to the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. It’s filled with floating icebergs of all shapes and sizes, making you feel small in their majestic presence. We’ll stroll along the magnificent black-sand Diamond Beach, dotted with big pieces of ice washed to the shore. They shine like glass as the sun hits their smooth surface.

From Jökulsárlón, we head toward Skaftafell Nature Reserve, right beneath Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier. From October to April, you’ll join our certified glacier guide for a hike on the ice, leading to a natural ice cave you can enter and explore. The colors, textures, and stillness inside are something else. In summer, we visit Katla ice cave—a surreal chamber hidden beneath a volcanic glacier. Your guide will take you into the heart of the ice, sharing stories of how these incredible formations came to be.

We’ll spend the night at Adventure Hotel Geirland, a cozy base surrounded by nature. From September to April, once the skies go dark, there’s always a chance the Northern Lights will steal the show.

Excited tourists shooting photos by waterfall in Iceland

Well-rested and ready to discover more wonders, we’ll make our way to Iceland’s most beautiful Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon. This magical place features a serpentine-like shape and moss-covered cliffs rising above the Jökulsá river, which twists through the gorge like a snake.

Next, we’ll visit the legendary Reynisfjara black-sand beach, but before that, we’ll stop at the mossy Eldhraun lava field to experience the island’s volcanic past. The powerful waves at Reynisfjara crash against the towering basalt columns, creating a mysterious atmosphere. Your guide will share the legends and tales about the Norse mythology creatures related to this place.

Our journey will then continue to Skógafoss, a 60-meter (197 feet) tall and 25-meter (82 feet) wide waterfall featuring breathtaking views of the Eyjafjallajökull stratovolcano in the distance. If the weather allows, you’ll see its white ice cap in full beauty. In the evening, we’ll return to Reykjavik to rest and unwind after an adventure-packed day.

Day Highlights
  • Eldhraun lava field
  • Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon (weather permitting)
  • Skógafoss waterfall
  • Reynisfjara black-sand beach
  • Eyjafjallajökull volcano views (weather permitting)
Included
  • Breakfast at the hotel

Couple holding hands walking through ice tunnel walls with beautiful ice patterns

Today’s journey takes you deep into Iceland’s second-largest glacier—Langjökull. You’ll hop aboard a specially modified 8-wheel monster truck and head across the ice to reach the world’s largest man-made ice tunnel. Once inside, spend an hour exploring the glowing blue chambers, frozen passageways, and even a built-in chapel. It’s an unforgettable way to experience the glacier from the inside—accessible year-round and only a few hours from Reykjavík.

After stepping back into daylight, we’ll stop at Deildartunguhver, the most powerful hot spring in Europe. Wooden walkways wind past steaming vents as your guide explains how these high-flowing waters power homes across the region.

Before returning to Reykjavík, we’ll visit two neighboring waterfalls with completely different personalities. Hraunfossar flows gently through ancient lava fields in a series of delicate streams, while Barnafoss crashes through rocky cliffs in a narrow, surging rush. Both offer a calm finale to your four-day adventure.

We will return to Reykjavík in the evening and drop you off at the initial pick-up point or at your hotel.

Day Highlights
  • Langjökull glacier ice tunnel tour
  • 8-wheel monster truck ride on the glacier
  • Deildartunguhver hot spring
  • Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls
Included
  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • Guided monster truck ride to Langjökull ice tunnel
  • Entrance to the ice tunnel with a guide
  • Visit to Deildartunguhver hot spring
  • Stop at Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls
  • Drop-off in Reykjavík

Pick-up starts at 9:00 AM from your hotel or a meeting point in Reykjavik. Picking everyone up may take up to 30 minutes. Your patience is much appreciated.

Weather-appropriate clothing: We'll spend roughly two hours on the ice during a glacier hike and an ice cave exploration. The temperatures hover below freezing, so make sure to dress warm and wear thermal underwear, waterproof hiking boots (the only type that fit crampons), gloves, a hat, a scarf, and a winter jacket.

If you don’t have suitable gear, you can rent hiking boots, a waterproof jacket, and waterproof pants in advance. Simply add them during the booking process at least 48 hours before your tour starts. The crampons and other safety equipment are included in the tour’s price and will be provided on site.

The actual view during your ice cave visit may not exactly match the photographs, as these natural formations are constantly changing. The appearance of the caves can vary depending on the season, time of day, lighting, and other environmental factors.

The Northern Lights' appearance during the winter tour is not guaranteed, as this natural phenomenon is highly dependent on weather and meteorological conditions that cannot be controlled.

The hotels we have partnered up with are all of the same standard and offer nice rooms with made-up beds and private bathrooms. The standard room is a twin room but it’s possible to request a double room or a triple room, with no extra charge.

If you are traveling solo, you will have to add the single room fee if you wish to have a single room.

All hotels have free Wi-Fi. Towels, a hairdryer and a kettle are accessible at all of the hotels. Hotel breakfast is included!

A single supplement is available if you want to have your own room, but you are not required to pay a single supplement. If you are a single traveler and do not wish to book a single room, you’ll be roomed with another traveler of the same gender.

If your tour includes accommodation, breakfast is always included during the tour at the hotel/guesthouse restaurant.

Meals and beverages are otherwise not included on your tour. (Unless it’s specifically stated in the description of the tour)

On our multi-day tours, we will be making stops at restaurants and convenience stores where you will be able to purchase all necessities. Cash is not necessary, as credit cards are almost always accepted. Having a small amount of cash doesn’t hurt though.

Breakfast is included at all the hotels we stay in during the tour. The breakfast will be a typical breakfast buffet, offering bread, toppings, cereal, yogurt, fruits, coffee, and tea etc.

Your guide will also find a good place for the group to eat lunch. We always try to choose places that have a wide selection of dishes on the menu, so there will be options available for everyone. The dinner is usually at the hotels we stay at for the night.

For multi-day tours, each participant is allowed to bring a small backpack and 1 piece of luggage weighing a maximum of 20 kg (44 lbs). If you have more or heavier luggage with you, you will need to book storage for the surplus luggage before you arrive, there is a small fee for using this facility. Luggage storage in Reykjavík can be added during the booking process of your order in the extras section.

* The combined dimensions of each bag must not exceed 158 cm (62 in).

We do welcome participants of all ages older than the listed minimum age for each tour. We have people of ages ranging from 8-99 years joining our multi-day tours.  Our average group usually consists of participants between the age 20-55 years. We do get a lot of solo travellers joining our tours, as well as families and friends.

If you have difficulties participating in any of the activities included in the tour, for example, a glacier activity, you are more than welcome to skip it. You can explore your surroundings in the meantime or wait elsewhere. Our guide should be able to drop you off at a nearby place where there are some services available.

We drive on average around 300 km (186 miles) per day on our multi-day tours. You will be spending approximately 4-5 hours in the car each day. We do of course stop on multiple locations throughout the tour for sightseeing, activities, bathroom breaks and lunch stops.

If you are not sure that you have suitable gear for your tour, we offer some necessary items for rent. For most of our multi-day tours, we rent out waterproof jackets and pants as well as hiking boots. You can book these items and more under the selection “Extras” in the booking widget when booking your tour on our website.

If you have already booked the tour and wish to add some rental gear to your booking, you can do so at least 24 hours prior to your tour starting by using our customer portal - My Adventures, or contacting our customer care.

Most of the hotels we use during our tours are remotely located and therefore ideal to spot the northern lights. If the forecast is in your favor, then it is more than likely that you will be able to see the magical show put on by the dancing northern lights during your tour with us. Most of the hotels offer a Northern Lights wake-up call up on request if the lights are spotted.

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and therefore we can unfortunately never promise that they will be seen. Their appearance depends upon atmospheric and weather conditions. The best time to see them is between September and March when it’s dark and clear. The sky needs to be as dark as possible, so the best places to see them are well away from city lights (that’s where we are going!).

For more information on the Northern Lights, please have a look at our blog about Northern Lights.

We always recommend booking a multi-day tour starting at least one day after arriving in Iceland. If you’re flying in from the US or will be landing early (4-6:30 am) you should be able to join the tour, but some risks would follow (i.e if the flight gets delayed) and could, therefore, miss out on the tour.

If you're having trouble booking your tour, please note that we accept payments in Canadian Dollars (CAD), American Dollars (USD), British Pounds (GBP), Euros (EUR), and Icelandic Króna (ISK). Start by checking with your credit card provider to ensure they allow payments in your selected currency.

Sometimes, your credit card company may need to pre-authorize the transaction before you can complete your booking online.

If you're still facing issues while trying to book through our website, please reach out to our Customer Care Team. We’re here to help you!
