The boat trip lasts around 75 minutes across Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Along the way, you'll pass floating icebergs in white, blue, and ash-gray tones and may spot seals resting on the ice or seabirds over the lagoon. A flotation suit and life jacket are provided. Itinerary

Arrive at the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon boat base 30 minutes before your scheduled departure to check in and prepare for the tour. The meeting point is directly off the Ring Road (Route 1). You'll receive a flotation suit and life jacket, followed by a short safety briefing before boarding one of the Zodiac boats. More than 20 seats are available across each scheduled departure, making this option practical for larger parties that want to travel at the same time. Once everyone is ready, the boats head out onto Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon for around 75 minutes on the water.

The route changes with the ice and lagoon conditions. The Zodiac boats can move between floating icebergs and smaller pieces of glacial ice and approach the glacier area when conditions allow. Your guide will choose the safest route based on the position of the ice, weather, and visibility that day. Keep an eye out for wildlife along the way. Seals are often seen resting on the ice or swimming through the lagoon, while Arctic terns and skuas may appear during the summer months.

After returning to the boat base, you can continue exploring the Jökulsárlón area or walk over to nearby Diamond Beach.

  • Minimum age is 10, or at least 4’3’’ (130 cm) tall.
  • Departures follow a fixed daily schedule with limited seats, so advance online booking is recommended.
  • The boats are open, with no roof, so dress warmly in wind- and water-resistant layers.
  • Weather can affect availability, and the operator may adjust or cancel departures for safety. In case of a weather-related cancellation, a full refund will be provided.
  • Public toilets, a café, a souvenir shop, a parking area, and accessible parking spaces are available in the Glacier Lagoon area.
  • This is a meet-on-location tour, and you'll need your own transport to the lagoon.
  • Ice conditions change daily depending on glacier activity, weather, tides, and ocean currents.
  • Parking fees are managed by Vatnajökull National Park and paid through the Parka app.

Traveling with a younger child or looking for an earlier-season departure? The Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon Zodiac Boat Tour operates from April and welcomes guests from age 8.
