From
Available from October to June, this retreat is designed to let you explore at an easy pace: crisp mornings in the mountains, afternoons in the Highland Baths, and nights under Iceland’s starlit skies! Find out how your days will look like.
The Central Highlands of Iceland are among the most remote regions in Europe — and Kerlingarfjöll is their heart. This geothermal mountain range rises from a vast area of glaciers, steaming valleys, and snow-covered ridges. Normally, the Highlands are only reachable in summer, but Highland Base makes them accessible in winter with professional transfers, modern lodging, and activities.
At the edge of Ásgarður Valley, Highland Base is a rare sanctuary where travelers experience the wild beauty of Iceland’s interior without sacrificing comfort. Guests enjoy geothermal baths, saunas, and hearty Nordic dining after days spent exploring icy rivers, volcanic valleys, and panoramic highland vistas.
Begin your journey with a scenic transfer from Reykjavík into the heart of Iceland’s untouched Highlands and check into your Double Deluxe Room, where modern comfort meets rugged mountain beauty. Each morning starts with a hearty breakfast buffet before heading out on a guided activity, from winter hikes to seasonal explorations, or simply relaxing in the lodge with sweeping views all around.
After a day outdoors, soak in the Highland Baths and sauna, then sit down to a 3-course dinner, enjoy evening storytelling with a complimentary drink, and look up to the skies for stargazing and the Northern Lights. On your final morning, savor one last breakfast and soak before your return transfer to Reykjavík, carrying home memories of an extraordinary highland escape.
Radiating warmth and comfort, the Deluxe room is a place of rustic coziness. With deep windows or a terrace and a double bed or twin beds (2 single beds), this room is designed for pure relaxation and unwinding.
Each day, an activity host invites guests to join a short guided walk in the surrounding Kerlingarfjöll area, offering insight into the landscape and its stories. This experience is complimentary for hotel and lodge guests, with alternative indoor activities provided if the weather makes outdoor exploring impossible.
Telescopic Stargazing
On clear nights from October to April at 21:00, step outside to observe the night sky through a high-powered telescope. In this pristine, light-free environment, you can spot distant galaxies, planets, and constellations — and often enjoy the added spectacle of the Northern Lights.
Highland Baths
The Highland Baths feature three geothermal hot pots built into the earth, creating a natural yet comfortable setting for relaxation. Guests can also enjoy a sauna, bar, and modern changing rooms, with a sheltered underground passage connecting directly to the hotel for easy year-round access.
During winter, Highland Base is only accessible by 4x4 super jeep with a professional driver. The remote trails are unserviced, open only to those prepared for the challenge. Icy roads, deep snowdrifts, and sudden weather shifts demand a vehicle built for extreme conditions.
That's why this package includes round-trip transfers from Reykjavík in a mountain-terrain coach, unstoppable in any landscape and led by a driver eager to share their knowledge!
The duration of the trip varies:
