Gunnar Gaukur Guðmundsson is an Iceland-based adventure and landscape photographer at Arctic Adventures, driven by a deep love for the island and a passion for working in nature across Iceland, especially in winter’s most extreme conditions. He turns Iceland’s raw landscapes and true-to-life adventures into powerful visual stories, capturing travel moments in all seasons.
Gunnar picked up his first camera at 15 and has been photographing Iceland ever since. Mostly self-taught through hands-on work outdoors, he also completed photography courses at 18 and has spent nearly two decades refining a technical, field-driven approach.
From day-to-night shoots to fast-changing weather, Gunnar’s work spans Northern Lights over frozen terrain, glowing Ice Caves, snow-covered waterfalls, stunning mountains, and storm-lit skies. In summer, he captures the remote highlands, wildlife, and the long daylight that transforms the landscape.
His ongoing collaboration with Arctic Adventures focuses on documenting authentic adventure experiences and creating imagery that showcases the scale, energy, and atmosphere of traveling in Iceland.
