This challenging and exciting 4-day adventure tour has it all including a summit hike to Iceland’s highest peak, sensational glaciers and the best sights of the south coast!

This tour will challenge and tantalize you, leaving you with stunning memories to treasure for a lifetime. The glittering highlight of this hiking tour is the highest point in Iceland, the summit of Hvannadalshnúkur, which soars to 2110 m (6923 ft). Your ascent is sure to bring you an amazing feeling of achievement, on a clear day, you will also be rewarded with absolutely spellbinding views in all directions.

This tour will show you the greatest sights and waterfalls of the south coast. At Reynisfjara, an extraordinary black beach with an incredible black basalt column cave, you will see the troll-like Reynisdrangar peaks rising high above the Atlantic Ocean. We will visit Vík, a charming little town with a picturesque church on the hillside, and also two famous waterfalls: Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss, which is a very unusual waterfall with a pathway leading behind the cascade. On the journey to Skaftafell, you will see great views of Sólheimajökull glacier on a clear day.

Hiking on Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajokull, you will discover some incredible sights and learn some amazing facts about this great white wilderness. You will be astonished by the corridors of winding crevasses tracing their pathways through the glacier, moulins delving deep within the ice and sharp jagged ice ridges. Your specialist glacier guide will keep you safe and share some really fascinating facts about this stunning glacier tongue, stretching out like a long talon from Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe. The glacier is a great vibrant force of nature which is always changing and moving. If you stand still you will feel the peace but you will also hear creaks and cracks as the ice moves!

You will visit Jökulsárlón Glacial lagoon to see the huge glacial lake filled with stunning icebergs of all shapes and sizes, these shimmering Arctic beauties often come to rest on the nearby Diamond Beach where they glisten like diamonds on the black beach. There is an optional boat trip on the lagoon (*extra fee payable when booking). Being in the midst of these ice monoliths is awe-inspiring and humbling. Another highlight is a hike from Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park to Svartifoss, a scintillating waterfall framed by a natural crescent of black basalt columns.

You meet us at your chosen pick up point in Reykjavík, we introduce ourselves and get on our way – there is so much to see! We travel through the farmlands of the south, passing small towns and villages along the journey to Seljalandsfoss, a really unique waterfall. You can walk behind the elegantly falling cascade for some really unusual photo opportunities and views. You will see another really stunning waterfall, Skógafoss, the falls drop from the former sea cliffs, which can be seen extending for many kilometers. Above the falls there is a trail which passes between Eyjafjallajökull and another great volcano mountain glacier, Mýrdalsjökull.

We will visit the black sand beach at Reynisfjara to see the wild and powerful Atlantic waves roaring onto the black volcanic beach. Do not stand too close – those waves deserve your respect! There is also a black basalt column cave to explore and the atmospheric Reynisdrangar peaks, rising like great trolls above the ocean. Another stop will be made at Vík í Mýrdal, the southernmost settlement in Iceland. We will also see Sólheimajökull, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Europe.

Today the magic of the glaciers awaits you! We will go to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon at the perimeter of Breiðamerkurjökull, a wide outlet glacier of Vatnajökull. You will be amazed by the icebergs which fill the enormous lagoon, jostling one another as they float in a mystical procession to meet their destinies in the Atlantic Ocean. Some of these icy beauties are washed ashore at the nearby Diamond Beach, when their white glimmering forms contrast starkly against the coal-blackness of the sand, some display amazingly deep shades of jewel blue. These blue tones are created by ice compression, they are also sometimes intensified by algae. You will feel as though you are in a film, and in a way you will be – famous movie footage, including James Bond, has been shot at Jökulsárlón. An optional boat trip on the lagoon, sailing between icebergs of all shapes and sizes, some bigger than large houses, is an unforgettable experience (*extra fee payable when booking).

Strap on your ice crampons for a stunning glacier hike across Vatnajokull glacier! Our certified glacier guide will take you safely over the ice showing you some breathtaking ice features. Learn all about the mysterious labyrinths of crevasses which riddle through the glacier, deep moulins and ice ridges and incredible ice falls. The glacier is a moving, living and dynamic place, its movement is powerful enough to shape the land beneath it. Learn how global warming is causing ever-increasing rates of glacial change.
