We pick you up at your selected pick up location in Reykjavik and head towards the east, over Hellisheiði pass and through the southern lowland to Sólheimajökull, an outlet glacier of Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland’s 4th largest glacier. From there we move towards Iceland‘s most famous black sand beach, Reynisfjara, where the roaring Atlantic ocean fiercely hits the shore. Just off the beach, Reynisdrangar basalt stacks majestically rise from the sea. Our next stop is Vík, the most southern town in Iceland here we’ll stop at the local church. After we have explored Vik, we turn around and start making our way back to the city. On the way back we will stop at Skógafoss, the roughly 65m high cascade, and the picturesque Seljalandsfoss, where you’ll have a chance to walk behind the waterfall. At all sites, you will have enough time to enjoy and make great memories to take home.

How is it best to be ready for a pick-up for a tour with Arctic Adventures?

This is a great question. We ask all participants to be ready from the start of the pickup time indicated. This is because you may well be the first pick up of the day. Please be at your assigned location at the start time that you chose when booking the tour.

Here you should wait for your guide.

Have your email and phone number listed with us so we can contact you if we run into any trouble finding you.

Can I drink alcohol before or during Arctic Adventures tours?

Before and during activities on the multi-day tours consumption of alcohol is prohibited. If we suspect that a participant is intoxicated, we will prohibit them from joining the activity.

After the activities of the day are finished, you are welcome to have a drink and relax.

Do you offer any family friendly tours, for younger children?

Yes, we do. Langjökull Ice Cave is a magical experience, the tour has no minimum age and is a wonderful option for the whole family. Whale Watching with our partner company Special Tours, has been a favourite with families traveling with young children, these guys have a great success rate in seeing whales (upwards of 98% in the summer time).

Another option would be the Landmannalaugar Safari on this tour you get to explore parts of the Icelandic highlands and bathe in natural hot springs. Most of our jeep tours are also suitable for children over the age of 6 years old. If you would like a nice and relaxing experience we would also recommend the Golden Circle & Secret Lagoon tour.

Can the itinerary for the tour change?

Your safety is our number one priority! Keeping this in mind, Arctic Adventures reserves the right to adjust the itinerary and/or take different routes depending on conditions. Please read more information in our cancellation policy.

Is there a guide on each Arctic Adventures tour?

Yes, there is a specially trained and certified guide on each of our tours. The only exception to this is for our self-drive tours.

All of our tours are guided in English.

How do I get to Reykjavik from Keflavík International Airport?

The drive from KEF airport to Reykjavik takes around 45 minutes. If your flight is delayed, please call our customer service team to go over what options you may have.

These are the two most common ways to get from the airport to Reykjavik city:

Airport Shuttle

The cheapest and most convenient way of getting to and from Keflavik International Airport. The shuttle drops you off at the BSI Bus Terminal downtown or takes you all the way to your hotel or the closest drop off location. If you’re arriving on the same day as your tour departures we highly recommend to pick BSI Bus terminal as your pick up location.

Book your airport transfer in Iceland.

The quickest way to get to Reykjavik city is by a taxi. The taxis can drop you off at any of our pick-up locations. Taking a taxi is always more expensive than the airport shuttle.

For further information about getting to and from Keflavík International Airport.

How is the weather/climate in Iceland?

There is a saying in Iceland, if you don’t like the weather just wait 5 minutes. This might sound like a joke but it is strangely true! Thanks to the beloved Gulf Stream, our country enjoys a cool, temperate maritime climate, this means refreshing summers and fairly mild winters. So basically, Iceland maintains a surprisingly moderate temperature all year around. For further information about the weather in Iceland and how to dress for it.

If your tour includes a glacier activity it’s very important to dress appropriately. Dress in 3 or 4 upper layers such as a light t-shirt (preferably wool) next to the skin, then a fleece or heavy wool garment, topped off with a waterproof windbreaker. Jeans are not recommended for our trips as they become very heavy, cold and uncomfortable to wear when they get wet. Lightweight hiking pants, track pants or long cotton pants are best and then wind/waterproof pants over. We also recommend using sunglasses and sunscreen even if it is cloudy due to the high UV and sunlight reflection from the glacier.

You will need sturdy hiking boots that fit crampons for the glacier hiking tours.

What is tipping like in Iceland?

Tipping is not a requirement in Iceland although it is permitted and is well received in most cases.

What is internet access like in Iceland?

Iceland is a very high-tech country and we actually have one of the highest rates of Internet usage in the world. Many restaurants and cafés, especially in Reykjavik, have free Wi-Fi access, so if you have a laptop, a tablet or a smartphone you can get Internet access almost anywhere. All of our vehicles also have free Wi-Fi.

What type of power outlets are used in Iceland? Do I need to bring an adapter?

The standard in Iceland is 230V and 50Hz and we use F-type power sockets and plugs, so you might have to bring an adaptor if you are visiting from UK, USA, Canada or other countries using a different voltage, Hz or plugs.

Should I bring mosquito repellent when traveling to Iceland?

Here is the plus side to a cold country like Iceland. No dangerous insects survive here! Iceland has about three areas where some mosquitoes have now settled but nothing you will have to worry about on our tours. So, to sum it up, no you will not need any repellant!

How are the tours rated in terms of difficulty?

Our tours are split into four different categories that help participants to understand what to expect from the tour. The categories are Easy, Moderate, Challenging and Demanding. Each tour is rated making it easier to find tours that suit you.

For further information about the difficulty ratings and descriptions.

What is it like to drive in Iceland?

Driving in Iceland can be tricky for two different reasons. The first being the weather conditions, especially in the winter months. The second reason is that if you’re not experienced in driving in conditions such as ice and snow then it could become dangerous.

If you are choosing a self-drive tour or to meet on location then make sure you have checked the driving conditions to make sure it is safe. At road.is you can find all the latest updates about travelling around Iceland. You should still check in the summer months just to make sure there is no storms or other types of weather warnings.

What type of safety can be expected on our tour?

Vehicles are equipped for both summer and winter driving conditions, and drivers are very experienced driving in difficult conditions.

Before starting any of the activities, participants will receive a safety briefing highlighting the safe and proper use of equipment, the role of guides during the trip, and the significant risks and hazards involved in their activity. The safety briefing will also cover potentially foreseeable scenarios that may arise and explain how participants should react in such circumstances. Our guides will also outline their expectations of participants during the trip where needed and address any specific questions or concerns that may arise during this time.

Any medical conditions or personal health concerns that may jeopardize your well-being or affect your ability to meet the physical demands of the trip must be clearly communicated to the trip leader before the tour start. Any medications you may require for minor medical conditions (asthma inhalers, etc.), should be kept close and you should bring it with you on the trip if possible. It is important that you notify your guide about such medications and their whereabouts before setting off.

Do I need any insurance before going on an Arctic Adventures tour?

As with any and all world travel, we strongly recommend having travel insurances that can provide cover if you need to cancel your travel reservation with short notice. We also recommend that you have personal health insurance coverage when participating in any adventure activities in Iceland.

How do I book a tour with Arctic Adventures and what information do you need from me?

There are a few different ways you can book our trips. First of all, you can book almost all our trips right here on our website. There is a booking window on each tour page and we do recommend that you book and pay for your trip there, preferably in good time as we keep our groups small and some tours tend to sell out.

If the trip you would like to book is not bookable online, you can call our office directly, the phone number is +354 562 7000. Another way is to send us an e-mail with an inquiry through our contact form. What we need to have is your name, how many people are in your party, where you are staying, a way of contacting you either an e-mail or a phone number and what tour you are trying to book.

How do I pay for a tour with Arctic Adventures?
  1. You can pay through the internet, through our website. This is by far the easiest, safest and fastest way to reserve and pay for your adventure. If you choose this way then you will receive a voucher as a confirmation via e-mail which you will need to bring with you for your trip.
  2. You can pay via phone, the phone number is +354 562 7000.Please Note: However you pay, you will always get a voucher: REMEMBER TO PRINT IT OUT AND BRING IT ALONG OR MAKE SURE THAT YOU CAN SHOW IT ON YOUR ELECTRONIC DEVICE!
When is a booking for a tour with Arctic Adventures confirmed?

A booking is confirmed when you receive a confirmation email. If you think you have made a booking and have not received an email confirmation, please send us an e-mail with an inquiry through our contact form, and we will figure this out together.

What currency do you accept?

We process all payments in Icelandic króna (ISK). Prices in your currency might vary slightly depending on the conversion rate set by your card issuer.

Arctic Adventures is not responsible for currency changes between different currencies.

Is there a participation minimum?

Most of our tours have no minimum but there is a minimum of 2 people for a few of our trips. If you are interested in a trip that has a minimum of 2 persons and are travelling solo we can take down your information and contact you if more people book the trip.

Do you do private departures for any of your tours?

Yes, we arrange private departures on request. Most of the tours we offer can be arranged as a private tour. If you wish to have a private tour arranged you can contact us through email custom@adventures.is.

Please have a look at all of our private tours.

Do you have a waiting list for tours?

We, unfortunately, don’t have a waiting list for our tours but feel free to check the availability sheet on our website as all updates will automatically be made to the sheet listed in each tour‘s description. We also offer a lot of different adventure tours around Iceland so chances are that we will have a similar version of the tour that you were originally looking for.

How does the refunding procedures work when we cancel a tour?

If we cancel a tour you have booked with us you will receive a 100% refund. The refund process is different depending on the way you booked the tour.

If you booked the tour on our website we will start the refund as soon as we know you will not be rescheduling and you will receive a separate email with the confirmation once the refund has been processed. It can then take a few days for the amount to show back up on your bank account once the refund has been processed and we, therefore, ask you to be patient.

If you booked the tour through a booking agent you will need to contact them to receive the refund. We will confirm with them that the tour was cancelled and the refund process will start on their end. Arctic Adventures only receives a payment when the tour has finished, this means that your payment is still with the booking agent and therefore, the refund will be processed by them.

If you pay with you card via email or phone you will need to contact us the same way again to be refunded.

I want to book but a member of my group has not reached the minimum age, what can I do?

We can not accommodate a person that has not reached the age limit on the tour. We put great value towards the safety of our customers and the minimum age policy falls under this. The minimum age requirement is decided by our operational managers and is dependent on each activity and it‘s difficulty ratings and can, therefore, vary between tours. We ask you to try to understand that this is based on safety procedures and we can therefore unfortunately not make any exceptions to this rule.

Arctic Adventures is a part of VAKINN which is the official quality and environmental system within Icelandic tourism. VAKINN provides validation of insurance, safety and regulatory requirements which supports increased quality and safety within the tourism industry.

The tour I am trying to book has less seats available than I need, what can I do?

Our website shows the correct number of available seats left so we can unfortunately not accommodate you and your group if the number of your group extends the number of available seats left. It is not possible to squeeze additional participants onto the departure as we have really strict policy measures as to how many participants are assigned to each guide on our tour departures. This is of course done with our customers safety in mind, so we do hope that you understand.

Which payment methods does Arctic Adventures accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club for all countries.

In addition, we offer various local payment methods in many other countries such as UnionPay and JCB (Japan Credit Bureau).

All our tours are undertaken on the responsibility of its participants. Arctic Adventures does not assume any responsibility for accidents that are caused by its customers or can be traced to their own actions. Participants have to sign a waiver before undertaking all trips stating that they realize that all outdoor activities carry an inherent risk.

"More genuine experience with Arctic than other tour companies I went with" | 5 stars By Michael 28/01/2018
So happy I found time for this tour--the black sand beach alone made the time/cost worthwhile, the waterfalls were spectacular, and all the landscapes we got to see from the bus windows were breathtaking and unique. We had a little extra time, so the guide made a few other quick stops that weren't on the agenda that were a great bonus-just ask and they'll do their best to accommodate any special requests. Overall the guide (Pauli?) contributed great information on everything we saw and passed by (much better than the pre-recorded tablets used by other tour companies!) and the smaller group made it very easy to ask questions and not feel like we were just being herded around. Unfortunately I discovered Arctic Adventures on my last day when I saw a different tour I wanted with someone else was sold out, otherwise I think I would have booked all of them through Arctic. On the plus side, I'll definitely be coming back again and know where to look first next time...
"Excellent tour!" | 5 stars By Alice Wu 29/01/2018
Excellent tour!
"Amazing" | 5 stars By Nicole Pretor 29/01/2018
What an amazing day, my tour guild pepe was fun, witty and full of information . The tour was the perfect amount of time on the glacier lots of small breaks as you get very warm as its hard work with the steep climbs. The company supply the correct equipment for walking on the ice. It was also nice to see a few waterfalls at the end of the day.
"Glacier Hike from Reukjavik" | 5 stars By Felicity Stone
This tour was great and the Glacier experience was amazing. Thank you to Francoise, Nick and the brilliant Ravi for guidance and friendliness. Francoise and Ravi in particul were full of interesting information. Wonderful sights and an adequate amount of time spent at each made for a snappy and interesting tour.
"We had a lovely time" | 4 stars By Holly Jones 01/02/2018
We had a lovely time on the south shore adventure with George. The only thing I think could've been improved was maybe 15 more at each location to really get the most out of the tour as there were so many lovely things to photograph at each place! That being said I didn't feel rushed at all. All the locations we stopped at had toilets and a café which was helpful.
"Awesome Tour!" | 4 stars By Jeana Beilstein 05/02/2018
This was a great option for visiting Iceland in the winter when you don't want to brave the roads yourself. Timely guides and made some great friends on the tour!
"South Coast Tour" | 4 stars By Y. 09/02/2018
I went on the South Coast tour. I’ll start with the one negative thing; I choose the grey line stop as my pickup terminal. I got picked up at 8am and it took about an hour to pick up all the guests. So, I was on the bus an hour before everyone else. Keeping in mind how long you actually have to be on the bus in total, it was a bit too much. Positive: Even though it took too long (in my opinion) to pick up ALL the guests, the bus was on time! it was a very nice tour, when you’re on the way to the first destination you get to enjoy the icelandic landscapes which was nice. Our tour guide was extremely friendly and tried his best to speak english well. He even helped some of the people who wanted to join the glacier tour instead of going to the black beaches. Very nice guy. He also made sure we got enough time to see the beautiful places and had time to make pictures/ bathroom breaks. The wifi on the bus was also very nice, which is fun since you have something to do while driving.
"It was an incredible tour" | 5 stars By Cem I. 23/02/2018
It was an incredible tour. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Iceland. The tour guide was also exceptionally well. I booked 2 tours with this company and both were amazing!
"The tour was wonderful" | 5 stars By Teresa 01/03/2018
The tour was wonderful. the tour guide was professional, helpful, and most importantly, friendly. the tour was well-arranged and the places we visited were absolutely stunning.
"Our guide was great and filled in the time between stops with great stories" | 5 stars By Scott Johnson 06/03/2018
Our guide was great and filled in the time between stops with great stories. He obviously loves his country and sharing it with visitors. We had a wonderful day and the sights were spectacular!!
"Great tour! Glacier Hike was great fun" | 5 stars By Caitriona Hartnett 06/03/2018
Great tour! Glacier Hike was great fun. Would have liked a bit more information in advance about the clothing to wear for the glacier hike and the costs to rent clothing at the site.
"Amazing experience" | 5 stars By Stef 04/03/2018
We had such a great experience, from the start of getting all the gear to the excellent guide to the amazing views and experience of climbing up an glacier- every step was great! This is one of our best excursions and we’ve been on some amazing ones! Would recommend this tour to anyone. It has made us want to do more similar and tougher glacier walks
"Great Tour Guide and Tour" | 5 stars By Melissa English 05/03/2018
This was a very informative and fun tour. We saw an amazingly beautiful black beach, waterfalls, a historical town and one of the famous glaciers. Our guide was phenomenal, informative and fun (and a great driver too on some scary roads). I would definitely recommend this tour for those wanting to learn more about the history of Iceland while seeing some beautiful and breathtaking sites.
"South Shore Adventure - great sights, miserable transportation" | 3 stars By Steven Peters 06/03/2018
This tour was excellent in every way EXCEPT for the bus we traveled in (I believe the manufacturer was The Bus Company and our tour guide told us the bus was brand new). The seats are very uncomfortable and have leg room that might accommodate a child but not an adult. I am of average height (5'10"" or 178cm) and could not put my legs in front of me. Fortunately I was on the aisle so I could dangle my feet in the passage but this meant sitting on an angle. My seatmate was not so fortunate. I was in the back half of the bus and I believe everyone sitting around me would make the same complaint. I suggest you remove at least one row of seats (more if need be) to allow passengers who have to sit in the bus for most of the 10 hour tour to feel comfortable. Also the seat back are pretty much vertical, so one cannot lean back at all. I observed my fellow passengers falling asleep on the way back and having their heads roll around because there was no way to lean back. There was no wifi because the tour guide/driver didn't know how to find it in this bus. I would definitely consider another tour with Arctic Adventures but I would first ask about the leg room. If insufficient, I would not go. I strongly recommend that Arctic Adventures modify their buses.
"Amazing experience!" | 5 stars By Amber 07/03/2018
We had an amazing time on the glacier walk and south shore tour. Everything about this tour was extremely well organized. George was a wonderful tour guide and probably the friendliest person we encountered while in Iceland! He was very knowledgeable about the area and allowed plenty of time at each stop. I wish we would have done our other tours through Artic Adventures!

Had the most experience doing the glacier and waterfall tour! Our tour guide George was amazing and took the time to get to know everyone on the bus! An unforgettable experience!
"Good company" | 5 stars By Sabrina Kretzschmar 19/03/2018
I like arctic adventures a lot because of the small groups. The guides are all very friendly and know a lot about Iceland , which they share. I would always recommend to go on a tour with arctic adventures
"Wonderful experience" | 5 stars By Daniel G 19/03/2018
We had a wonderful time exploring the south coast. Our tour was combined with the glacier walk tour and we ended up having the tour to ourselves for part of the time. We had a wonderful experience at the Black Sand Beach, and some great shopping in Vik. Our guide was very polite and informative. An overall fantastic experience.
"Our tour guide was absolutely amazing" | 4 stars By Claire 22/03/2018
Our tour guide was absolutely amazing. I can’t quite remember his name but he really really deserves recognition. He made the tour so entertaining and full of energy and was always looking for ways to make it even better for us whether that meant taking photos or even stopping for us to interact with some beautiful Icelandic horses. He was wonderful and I hope the adventure team really value him. Thankyou again it was a great experience . I would reccomend this over Reykjavík excursions, you have much less time restrictions and it is much more relaxed and comfortable.
"Amazing adventure" | 5 stars By Fiona 14/03/2018
This trip is fantastic and a must if you are lucky enough to venture to the beautiful Iceland. Brilliant value for money and you will be travelling in style with a superb guide. We loved this trip and would highly recommend that you do it as you won’t be disappointed.
"Great trip, well organised" | 5 stars By Nicola King 23/03/2018
Great trip, well organised. Got to see some of the wonderful sights of the South Coast of the island. Our guide was Bjord who was very friendly and informative. Would recommend the trip to friends and family and would definitely book again with Arctic Adventures.
"The full Icelandic experience" | 5 stars By A 05/04/2018
Despite the wind gusting to 85mph Holly managed to get us down the South Coast tour safely and improvised the routing to make the most of the challenging weather. Top marks considering the conditions. Thanks Holly
"Great way to see a lot in a short amount of time!" | 3 stars By Allene 10/04/2018
The small group tour was ideal for us since we wanted to see a lot but only had 2 days. Unfortunantely, I did not feel that we had enough time at each location. If, like us, you have are on a short vacation then it is worth booking a tour. Otherwise I would opt for a self-guided tour so you can travel at your own pace.
"South Coast tour" | 5 stars By Natalie Ryan 12/04/2018
Our tour guide Becca was great. Very knowledgeable and accommodating. Wet liked her very much!
"The itinerary covered most of the interesting features in the area" | 4 stars By Paddy Wardell-Yerburgh 20/04/2018
The transport was on time and comfortable. Access to Wi fi was very useful. The itinerary covered most of the interesting features in the area I believe. Our our guide was very pleasant and did take us to see an extra feature which was unscheduled. However, his strong accent did make it rather difficult to understand what he was saying whilst we were driving along which was a shame because I am sure he had a lot of interesting things to tell us. The guide on the previous excursion (8th April) was so much easier to understand which greatly enhanced the experience.
"South Coast Tour" | 5 stars By Kathleen Mayerhofer 23/04/2018
I couldn't give our guide "Diddy" a better review and it made our tour so much more memorable! We learned so much history and background of not only Iceland's South Coast, but also of Iceland's history in general in an easy, entertaining way. We had a personal story teller combined with the stunning views-I would recommend this tour to everyone considering an Arctic Adventures tour!
