Overview

A darker and longer sibling of Silfra, Davíðsgjá is a monstrous crack in Lake Thingvellir. Its visibility is dependent on weather conditions but on most days it reaches an impressive 100m. Although often mentioned together with Silfra, this go-to diving site for many locals has promising sights and experiences of its own. The size of the crack alone will leave a lasting impression. It is simply impossible to take it all in at once. The scale and underground architecture complement each other as you have plenty of space to explore massive lava formations.

Highlights

  • Dive deeper and further into lake þingvellir
  • Tectonic Diving Adventures
  • Small Group Experience

Iceland is one of very few places in the world where you can actually dive through the separation of a tectonic divide and this deep split in the middle of one of Iceland’s largest glacier formed lakes will blow your mind. Great visibility, swim throughs, the underwater volcanic valley of America and Europe pulling apart and the ghostly shadows of trout lingering in the blue water.

Itinerary

Information

Iceland is one of very few places in the world where you can actually become a certified Volcano Diver! Start by booking a Tectonic Diving Day Tour or a Geothermal Diving Day Tour. Then give these experiences an upgrade by adding on a Volcano Diver course. Leave Iceland a proud Volcano Diver with the certificate to prove it.

Prerequisites for this add-on course:

  • Booking Tectonic Diving Tour or Geothermal Diving Tour
  • PADI Open Water certificate
  • PADI Dry Suit certificate

We can all agree that diving is about adventures. And few can top the feeling of floating around monuments of Iceland’s powerful geothermal activity. Rock vibrations, air bubbles rushing towards the surface, magnificent craters and lava formations are a treasured experience even for divers who think they’ve already seen it all.

This isn’t a regular dive you can complete and log anywhere in the world. Very few locations are blessed with such geological wonders, and even fewer offer Volcano Diver specialty courses.

The fact that you’re a diver already says a lot about how curious you are. So why not take it up a notch and make memories beyond compare with an official certificate?

To add this course to one of our tectonic diving tours, please contact dive@adventures.is

In your initial email, please specify:

  • Which tour you have booked and when
  • Your previous diving experience and certification
  • Your height and weight (to ensure we have appropriate gear ready)
  • Anything else that might be relevant (such as health conditions)

*If you haven’t yet booked your tectonic diving adventure, please take a look at the Tectonic Diving Tour and Geothermal Diving Tour. When you choose the one that’s right for you, email us at dive@adventures.is and include both the tour and Volcano Diver add-on in your email.
