Combo Trip: 2 Hour ATV/Quad Bike Tour & Lava Caving in the Blue Mountains Area. Available Directly from Reykjavík City.
Trip difficulty 2 out of 5 possible. Rated: Easy
A short 20-minute drive from Reykjavík we will find our 700 cc Yamaha Grizzly Quad bikes waiting outside our base on the Hellisheiði plateau. There we give you a short security talk and show you how the bikes function. From there we head out on a two to three hour ATV bike trip along the mountains and through the amazing lava fields of the Blue Mountain Range. Driving these powerful machines through the lava fields is a great way to explore the hills and mountains on the outskirts of the city. Half way through our trip we will stop at the Leiðarendi lava cave and descend into the hidden depths of the Tvíbollahraun lava field.
Exploring this magnificent lava cave and discovering the marvels that the volcano created more then 2000 years ago is a trip that everyone will enjoy. The Leiðarendi cave is a perfect example of an Icelandic lava tube and is situated in one of the most active volcanic areas in the world. We will climb, crawl and walk on our travel beneath the surface. When we emerge from the underworld we will enjoy a packed lunch before our off-road trip back to base starts.
What an awesome winter adventure this truly is!
