How To Get To Our Rafting Basecamps...

Driving Directions:

If you are driving yourself you have to be at the base camp 15 min before your departure time to check in for your tour.

How to get to Drumbó Basecamp (Rafting or canoeing on Hvítá river in South Iceland):

Driving directly from Reykjavík to Drumbó Basecamp takes around 90 min, driving non stop at the maximum speed rate of 90 km per hour. That´s the fastest you are allowed to drive on the Icelandic highways. We  really recommend you drive within the speed limits along the way since speeding fines are pretty high, but mostly because we are concerned about your safety. Icelandic roads can  be freakishly  bumpy and hard to deal with. If you intend to visit the Golden Circle with all its amazing sites before going river rafting at 14:00 from Drumbó, you will have to leave Reykjavík no later than 9:00 AM.

Note: Drumbó Basecamp is marked DRUMBODDSSTAÐIR on maps. That´s the real name of the farm it stands next to, we just call it Drumbó cause it´s shorter and easier to pronounce. Drumboddsstaðir is a tongue breaker, even for Icelanders.

There are two ways to reach the Drumbó Basecamp. here are the directions:

Express Route: Drive road no.1 east from Reykjavík (in the direction of Hveragerði). Once you have passed Hveragerði town, take a left turn up road no. 35,  just before arriving to the town of Selfoss. Drive road no. 35 for approx. 30-40 minutes until you have driven past the small village of Reykholt. 5-10 min later you take a right turn at an Arctic Rafting sign. Drive the gravel road for approx. 5-10 minutes following the signs all the way to Drumbó. After you see the first signpost they will lead you all the way to our beloved boathouse. Make sure you drive safely on the gravel roads.

Golden Circle Route: Drive road no.1 north from Reykjavík. Soon after you have driven through Mosfellsbær suburb town, take a right turn up road no.36 in the direction of Þingvellir. Drive to Þingvellir National Park and make a sightseeing stop there. From Þingvellir, keep driving road no. 36 for approximately 10 minutes until you make a left turn up road no.365 in the direction of Laugavatn. Drive for about 25 minutes until you reach an intersection by the town of Laugavatn, take a left turn up road no. 37. Drive for 25 minutes until you reach Geysir hot springs and make a stop there for sightseeing. From Geysir drive towards the highlands on road no. 35 (road no. 37 becomes road no. 35 just before Geysir) for 10 minutes without making any turns. Arrive at the Gullfoss Waterfall and take a walk to approach it as close up as possible. You´ll be surprised by the power of nature. After your Gullfoss visit, turn back and drive towards Geysir again until you see road  no.30 on your left hand side. There is a signpost that says Einholt on it. Drive that road until you get to the junction of road no.358, turn there. Drive on until you see a very old white bridge on the right, don´t go over the bridge but turn left. By now you should have seen some Arctic Adventures/Arctic Rafting signposts, they will lead you to our beloved Drumbó base camp.

How to get to Hafgrímsstaðir Basecamp (Rafting on East Glacier River and West Glacier River in North Iceland):

Driving directly from Reykjavík to Hafgrímsstaðir Basecamp takes around 4 hours, driving non stop at the maximum speed rate of 90 km per hour. That´s the fastest you are allowed to drive on the Icelandic highways. We  really recommend you drive within the speed limits along the way since speeding fines are pretty high, but mostly because we are concerned about your safety, and other peoples safety. Icelandic roads can  be freakishly  bumpy and hard to deal with.

Express Route: Drive road no.1 north from Reykjavík (in the direction of Mosfellsbær). From there you keep on driving towards Hvalfjörður, we recommend you use the tunnel that lead you under the  fjord instead of driving the Hvalfjörður road, if you are in a hurry. If you have enough time we recommend you drive road no.47 which leads you along the coast of Hvalfjörður, simply cause it´s very scenic and impressive. Continue  on road no.1 through Borgarnes, Bifröst, Laugarbakki, Víðigerði and Blönduós until you get to Varmahlíð. From Varmahlíð you turn into road no.752 and keep on driving for about 10-15 minutes until you see our beloved boathouse at Hafgrímsstaðir.
